Raising the (Olympic) bar

I often get asked what gym equipment is best to train with… Free weights or machines?

And my reply almost always is free weights, and specifically the Olympic bar. It’s a bar with almost limitless options. Some gym machines tend to be big and bulky and difficult to set up correctly. Most machines allow movement in only one direction and offer very limited range of motion, which is not great if you are looking to develop total body strength. The Olympic bar offers great versatility and is excellent for compound training as well as developing strength and power.
