Clemengold Wolkberg Trail Run 2016 impresses (again)

Wolkberg took place on 6 and 7 August 2016 and attracted a strong contingent of athletes including two-time winner Bennie Roux, Lesotho Mountain Challenge 2015 ladies winner Marzelle van der Merwe, SA Skyrunning Series competitor Stewart Chaperon, KPMG elite women’s runner Marcelle Coetzee, and regular podium finisher, Edwin Sepisi, all competing in the event that was recently inducted into the Skyrunner Series.

Sick Sandes pulls out of Western States 2015

South Africa’s Ryan Sandes, who finished second in the 2012 edition of the grueling Western States Ultra, pulled out the night before due to a gastric virus. Blue skies, fast times at Giant’s Cup Trail Run 2015

The Giant’s Cup Trail Run is only two years old, but the family atmosphere, polished organisation, and superb trails of this two-day, 65km race, you’d imagine it’s been a premier event for a decade. The second Giant’s Cup Trail Run had four times as many entrants enjoying the epic adventure through the Drakensberg. Golden-boy Rory Scheffer won again, and Katya Soggot came out tops in the ladies race, coming second overall.

Unexpected Molweni and SA Trail Champs victor 2015

No one, not even the champion himself, expected Johardt van Heerden, a track athlete from Potchefstroom, to take the Long Distance Trail title at Molweni on Sunday 3 May. He will join seven of SA’s best trail athletes in competing on the world stage at the Long Distance Championships at the Zermatt Marathon in Switzerland on 4 July.
