What to Think About During Exercise

by Leo Babauta A reader wrote to me and said he gets bored during running, which makes him want to just stop running. And so he asked for suggestions for what to think about while running or exercising in general. Such a great question: if you’re bored, why would you want to do it? Why not read fun stuff on the Internet instead? Well, other than the fantastic health benefits, exercise is a wonderful time […]

Luna Mono Trail Sandal Review

Testing the Luna Mono trail sandal Wowweeeeeeee! Maybe you’ll also feel like a streaker running across the pitch at a cricket match when you run in the Luna Monos for the first time. You may feel naked, liberated, exposed and slightly giddy with child-like exuberance. The difference was that my feet continued loving the sensation of freedom well after my runs; which is not the reward of streakers once they’re caught by Security! To form […]

Ever reached that point in training when your legs become heavy and lethargic, you lose the spring in your step, your performances stop improving or even start to deteriorate, injuries start to creep in, and you feel fatigued mentally and physically even on your rest days? A major problem experienced by many runners, elite and amateur alike, is thinking that training and racing as hard as possible all the time will bring about results.   […]

Why It’s OK To Walk

Many runners, from recreational beginners to seasoned regulars at road races, view walking during a race, or even in training, as some sort of indication of weakness or failure. It’s as if you’re not strong enough, physically or mentally, to run the whole way. This became evident to me during a recent marathon. The race combined a 36km and marathon distance, with an extra loop at halfway which allowed the marathoners to re-join the race […]

Supplement Confessions From The Don

I read with fascination on Twitter and Facebook, both highly credible sources of information of course, athletes and weekend warriors espousing the benefits of their chosen supplement or energy potion. Now I am a big believer in correct, calculated and careful supplementation but let’s be honest here, most of you are getting a little carried away by the effect of your mootie. The key to a good supplement is in fact, to not feel anything. […]

New Balance Minimus Ionix M3090v2 Review

Having never tried a New Balance Minimus model before, I was excited to try out the new 3090v2 road shoe. What first struck me, besides the striking lizard-like green and blue colour combination, was the low profile design. Being a Minimus model, it features a low 4mm heel-to-toe drop and it’s definitely not a heavy shoe. The size UK10 test pair showed 226g on our digital scale (per shoe). It’s also super-flexible with the fold […]

Run On Air With Breath-Based Training

When people decide to start running, one of the most common stumbling blocks to enjoying the experience is the inability to breathe while running for any period of time. This generally means you’re running too hard for your ability! For any exercise plan to be followed it has to be sustainable and enjoyable. In order to enjoy running, you have to get past the feeling that your muscles may spontaneously combust at any moment and […]
