A mere 10km east of Pretoria, tucked away in the beautiful Highveld hills, lies a lovely farm known as Rosemary Hill
Rosemary Hill is a working organic farm so you might think that the daily farm activities would make it feel like just another farm but that could not be further from the truth. The big old trees, luscious lawns, extensive rosemary and lavender fields and a larger than life herb and shrub labyrinth make Rosemary Hill ooze tranquility, healthfulness and charm.
Although Rosemay Hill arguably serves some of the best organic food in the north, that is not the best reason to visit. This peaceful environment is also the setting for some of Gauteng’s most enjoyable mountain biking and running trails. Established in May 2011, the trails take runners and cyclists through beautiful rosemary fields, past dams, through forest sections, across streams and through indigenous vegetation. A solid ride or run can be finished off with delicious homemade organic breakfasts and light meals served from 9am to 2pm. The restaurant and trails are only open over weekends and public holidays. It’s not an unfamiliar sight to see mountain bikers and trail runners hanging around under the trees for hours afterwards, enjoying the peace and quiet and the relaxed atmosphere.
